What a useful CCTV design brief should contain
Define purpose, coverage, retention, lighting and operator access before counting cameras.
A camera schedule is an output, not the starting point. The brief should record the risks, operating conditions and evidence the design must address.
Start with purpose
Name what each area needs to show and who will use the footage.
- Entry and exit identification
- Perimeter observation
- Operational incident review
- Applicable authority requirements
Define the recording environment
Lighting, retention, network capacity and control-room access affect both equipment and infrastructure.
Make acceptance testable
Agree field of view, playback, export, event and handover checks before installation is complete.
