Home automation scope workshop: what to define before installation
Turn room-by-room expectations into scenes, interfaces, dependencies, fallback controls and acceptance tests.
A home automation scope workshop should produce decisions, not a feature list. Each scene or schedule needs a trigger, outcome, override, dependency and acceptance test before installation begins.
Define useful scenes
Walk through arrival, occupied, away, night and maintenance conditions in plain language, then state what lighting, climate and shading should do.
Assign interfaces and dependencies
Identify which contractor supplies, powers, addresses, programs and tests each point, including gateways, networks and third-party systems.
Write the fallback
Controls should remain understandable when a gateway, network or cloud service is unavailable, with manual operation recorded before handover.
Set acceptance tests
Turn every agreed scene, interface and fallback into a test with a clear expected result for commissioning and handover.
